An old leaf parting off – I can hear the sound as it detached. Or was it the sound of a new one generating through my skin, with which I’m still attached?
A part of my bark that I shed, Reveals the fresh juicy thing. So I’m at loss – Am I getting old or Evolving to a new being?
Deeper my root runs Through the stony ground, More wanderers I can see around Resting under my shade. I don’t mourn the parts I shed.
Thank you for submitting your poem for consideration for Featured Poem of the Month for December. I love the perspective in this poem – the tree wondering about itself – losing its leaves – generating new ones – perhaps flowering – producing fruit – lovely way of presenting the feelings and experiences of trees. If I were to make a suggestion, it would be to incorporate more imagery in your poem so that we could experience what you feel – what the tree feels – on a sensory level. Example: “Deeper my roots run/like fingers reaching down/searching through the stony ground.” Very well done and I thank you for your interest in https://www.poetladykatz.com Your friend in poetry, Susan
