Welcome to my Poet Lady Chat Room. I would like to invite you to click on the chat box and type in a question, a suggestion, submit a poem, in other words โ€“ โ€œchat with me.โ€ I may, if you submit a poem, decide to feature it in my Poem of the Week section or, we may simply exchange ideas and suggestions about your poem.

This is a place to โ€œtalkโ€ poetry with someone who has loved it all her life. I have a true passion for the possibilities of poetry and would love to hear your thoughts and/or read your poem. I will be happy to offer my reaction to your work and, based on over 40 years of teaching poetry, organizing, and conducting poetry workshops, working as a book review editor for an international poetry magazine, authoring five books of poetry and two textbooks on teaching poetry, send along my thoughts on ways to make your poem stronger and more impactful.

If youโ€™re on my site, you have a connection to poetry. Feel free to connect with me โ€“ right here -right now, by typing your message into the โ€œchat boxโ€ and clicking send. Iโ€™m waiting…

Why're boards given so much importance?

Why do our hobbies become nonsense?

Why is there a limit to our play?

In this, why don't we have any say?

They say "Cancel your vacation!

To the teaching pay very good attention

For this year will change your life"

But this is like on our throat a big sharp knife!

Some say "Stop worrying everything will be fine"

Others say "Start studying & for god's sake stop your whine!"

This year's gonna be like hell

"This year prepare for your exams well!"

A few days before boards

Everyone will higher their hopes

Many people will come to meet

& them you'll have to greet

They'll bring you chocolates & pens

& give you advice on what to do & when

We'll go to tuition & study there till late

because we're not sure what's in our fate

We'll eat chocolates & drink tea

Our exams are ending, that's what we see

& once the exams are over

All our friends come for a sleepover

Lot's of happiness they'll bring

They'll make our hearts sing

Then once the results come

How many have high percentage? Only some.

Thank you so much for sending this very emotional and intense poem for me to read.ย  I can feel your passion and your commitment to the ideas you are sharing with your reader.ย  In order for it be more "poetic" I would love to see more imagery, sharper line breaks, and other poetic devices that help to bring the reader into the experience you are sharing with us.ย  May I respectfully suggest, you take a look at some of the lessons here at http://www.poetladykatz - as they may be helpful in editing your poem, if that is the path you choose.ย  Poetry is the perfect way to articulate your passions, and you certainly have done that.ย  Your friend in poetry, Susan
