Welcome to my Poet Lady Chat Room. I would like to invite you to click on the chat box and type in a question, a suggestion, submit a poem, in other words – “chat with me.” I may, if you submit a poem, decide to feature it in my Poem of the Week section or, we may simply exchange ideas and suggestions about your poem.

This is a place to “talk” poetry with someone who has loved it all her life. I have a true passion for the possibilities of poetry and would love to hear your thoughts and/or read your poem. I will be happy to offer my reaction to your work and, based on over 40 years of teaching poetry, organizing, and conducting poetry workshops, working as a book review editor for an international poetry magazine, authoring five books of poetry and two textbooks on teaching poetry, send along my thoughts on ways to make your poem stronger and more impactful.

If you’re on my site, you have a connection to poetry. Feel free to connect with me – right here -right now, by typing your message into the “chat box” and clicking send. I’m waiting…

My Dad (1 reply)

The day I stepped into this world,
Everyone was cheerful.
But there was someone with a bright shine,
And with proudness in his eyes,
Said with a hopeful heart that
“She is my sweet daughter who will make me proud”
I still remember, it was my Superhero,
My 'DAD'.

Crawling and Crawling on my knees,
You were the one who held my lil’ fingers,
To take those little steps.
But there were you,
Who gently held my sweet lil’ hands
And said
“My dear, the journey begins”.
I still remember, it was my Superhero,
My ‘DAD’.

When I was upset to move out,
And to cross the threshold of the house,
Everyone in their mind was having a doubt,
But there was only you.
Who fully had trust, and blind faith in me,
And said with a confident attitude to me,
“My dear, in your life you’ll always succeed”.
I still remember, it was my Superhero,
My ‘DAD’.

When I was broken and deflected,
And was about to quit the struggle,
There was only you who supported me.
Boosted me with energy and confidence,
And said
“You can do it, my child”.
I still remember, it was my Superhero,
My ‘DAD’.

Today I’m nineteen
Someday surely I’ll get my Prince,
But there will be one person in my life, who’ll always be my King,
And he is none other than you,
My ‘DAD’.

You were always there for me,
Whenever there was flood you protected me.
Now, I promise a time will surely come,
When all the efforts of mine,
Will make you proud and happier than ever.
And I pray to almighty that,
“May my DAD stay with me forever”.

Thank you so much for sharing this poem dedicated to your "extraordinary" dad with me.  I can feel the love and pride and admiration you have in your heart.  I will consider it, along with a great many others, for Featured Poem of the Month, for June.  All best, Susan
