To my grand dogs
There is something in those eyes
a light that shines from someplace
beyond knowing growing brighter
amber spheres spilling sheer abundant
love like wine into
my soul whole love not bits and pieces
bartered for or offered miserly like crumbs
love so unrestrained it oozes
from the eyes shivering through
that warm
furred body like a sigh
escaping
a lover’s lips and ends in the exultation
of a wagging tail when all else fails
me when the world would drown
my laughter bury my hope
in the darkness of despair
those eyes that warm
wet tongue that furry body
wriggling its boundless love
is there. – Susan a. Katz (all rights reserved)
